- August - Putting session with emphasis on Green reading and skills testing.
- September - Open session - The student can lead this session with an area of their game they feel needs attention.
In between sessions, students will be given homework (don't worry it will be fun I promise!).
The homework will be their practice plan broken down into a combination of 1. Block Practice (think high rep technique work), 2. Random practice (varying the target with consequence), 3. Body awareness/Speed drills and 4. Skills Tests. The time spent will vary depending on the time the player has at their disposal to work on their game.
For each of the sessions there will be a Leaderboard. Skills tests will cover Swing Speed, Wedge approach, Strokes gained approach tests, Driving tests, Putting tests and short game tests to name a few. The Leaderboard will be a way of creating a bit of competition during potentially non-playing months.
I am really excited about this and feel this is my most comprehensive learning programme yet.
A client of mine that has 1-to-1 coaching and whose son visits my junior academy commented a while back, "Why don't you treat us oldies like your treat the kids"? Meaning why do they have structure, a programme and variation? And it got me thinking... For my kids and elite amateurs, I create a professional learning environment along with a periodised plan for their season, why should my adult clients be any different?
It's nice knowing I will have someone under my watch for 12 sessions as I can get down to what I call the 'dirty work', things that in an ordinary session get pushed into the background, like understanding why the club and ball do what they do, wedge gapping distances, driving range practice games, building swing speed and so on.
So if you are tired of the same old coaching model and quick fixes, this could be the start of a thorough and structured plan to lead you into next season with renewed confidence.
